How Does a Heat/Cold/Sauna affect my CGM

What to know about extreme temperatures and your sensor.

Your CGM sensor is designed to operate between 50°F and 113°F (10°C and 45°C). Within that range, readings should be reliable. Outside of it, the sensor may display a "Sensor Too Hot," "Sensor Too Cold," or "Glucose Reading Unavailable" error and temporarily stop providing readings.

Showers and baths are generally fine, as water temperature stays within the operating range.

Saunas and steam rooms typically reach 150-210°F (70-100°C), which is well above the sensor's limit. We don't recommend wearing your sensor in a sauna. Prolonged heat exposure can cause inaccurate readings, weaken the adhesive, or damage the sensor. If you do use a sauna, remove your phone from the heat and be aware that readings during and shortly after may not be reliable.

Cold plunges and ice baths can drop below the sensor's minimum operating temperature. The sensor may pause readings until your body temperature returns to normal range.

In both cases, once you return to a normal temperature environment, your sensor should resume readings. If it doesn't, or if you see a persistent error message, see What Should I Do If I Get an Error Message in the Libre App?
