Starting With AI Nutrition

Using AI Nutrition as a Theia entrypoint

Updated over a week ago

AI Nutrition is a straightforward way to add structured food logging and meal analysis to your practice without requiring clients to use a CGM sensor. This guide covers how to get started, what plan you will need, and how to position AI Nutrition with your clients.

What is AI Nutrition?

We've combined our AI image recognition and macro/micronutrient tracking features with powerful goal-setting and tracking capabilities to bring you a motivating dashboard and reporting experience. Daily use empowers you to achieve your nutrition goals in collaboration with your care team.

Our science-backed algorithm uses your input to generate thoughtful targets for calories, macronutrients, and fiber. You can customize these targets, or your provider can review and set targets on your behalf as needed.

Our algorithm considers age, height, gender, weight, and target weight (if weight change is desired). If you have a goal of weight loss, it will also account for a desired rate of reduction.

With the above factors in mind, the system sets personalized targets for calories, macronutrients, and fiber (all of which can be customized to your preference).

As you log meals with AI Nutrition throughout the day, logged calories, macros, and fiber will be tracked in relation to your daily targets.

To keep track your progress against the goals you set, you'll want to routinely track your meals in Theia. We've designed it to be an easy process as outlined below:

  • Take or Upload A Photo Of Food

  • Theia Analyzes The Image

  • Get Nutrition Results

  • See The Impact on Your Daily Goals

To track a meal quickly, you can use the "Quick Photo" feature to snap a picture of what you're having.

You can also use the "+ Activity" Button in the app and then select "Food". Once you take a picture or upload an image, it will be analyzed by our AI tool.

Our AI Image tool will recognize the following components of any logged image:

  • Caloric Information

  • Ingredients (Including Food Title)

  • Macronutrients

  • Micronutrients

Caloric information, macronutrients, and fiber will be logged on clients dashboard in relation to their daily goals.

Client Reports

As clients consistently log meals with AI Nutrition, you'll be able to view your trends over time using the Reports tab of their account. The Reports tab features graphs for daily calories, macronutrients, and weight tracking.

Any logged activities will appear in a table view with their associated calories and macronutrients at the bottom of the Reports tab.

What plan do you need?

AI Nutrition seats are included in paid provider plans. You will need to upgrade from a free account to access this feature for your clients.

Plan

AI Nutrition Seats

Professional

50 seats

Business

150 seats

Each seat represents one client who can use AI Nutrition at no additional cost to them. Once you have assigned a seat to a client, they have full access to food logging and meal analysis through the Theia app.

If you are unsure which plan fits your practice size, the Professional plan is a practical starting point for most providers.

Alternatively: Offer AI Nutrition as a paid client service

If you prefer not to cover the cost through your plan seats, you can also offer AI Nutrition directly to clients at $40 per year. Providers earn a commission on each client purchase made through their co-branded link.

This model works well when:

  • You want to offer AI Nutrition as part of a paid program or package

  • You have more clients than your plan's seat allocation

  • You want to generate additional revenue alongside your coaching services

How to get started

1. Upgrade to a paid plan Log in to your provider account and upgrade to the Professional or Business plan, depending on how many clients you plan to support.

2. Choose how clients will access AI Nutrition Decide whether you will use plan seats (no cost to the client) or have clients purchase access through your co-branded link ($40/year with commission).

3. Invite clients Use an email invite for hands-on onboarding, or share your co-branded link for self-serve sign-up.

4. Set expectations with your client Let clients know what AI Nutrition includes: meal photo logging, food tracking, and pattern insights. A brief explanation at the start reduces questions and improves early engagement.

5. Review data in Theia Once clients are logging, use the Theia dashboard to review meal entries, identify patterns, and guide your coaching sessions.

Tips for a smooth rollout

  • Start with a small group of clients to get comfortable with the workflow before scaling.

  • Use AI Nutrition as an engagement tool early in the client relationship, before introducing CGM if relevant.

  • If clients are not logging consistently in the first week, a brief check-in is usually enough to get them back on track.

  • Configure the client-facing experience to match your coaching style — if you prefer a pattern-based approach over calorie tracking, adjust the settings accordingly.
